OSTRO-L W 90 put to the test: certified precision and reliability

A major international company chose our OSTRO dry coolers to provide precision cooling for a large data centre in Ireland.

Due to the mission-critical nature of the application, the OSTRO units had to meet very tight specifications, both in terms of cooling capacity and noise levels, due to their proximity to other company premises.

The IMQ test: guaranteeing the performance of our OSTRO-L W 90

In order to guarantee the highest level of quality and reliability, we subjected one of the OSTRO units in the order to a rigorous test certified by IMQ (Italian Quality Mark Institute).

The aim was to verify

  • The cooling capacity.
  • The noise level.
  • The energy consumption.

The test was carried out according to two standards

  • EN 1048:2014
    for the cooling capacity.
  • EN ISO 9614-1:2009
    for the sound power level, using the reference box method.

Test operating conditions

Precise operating conditions were maintained during the test:

  • Ambient temperature range
    28.2 – 28.5 °C
  • Recommended maximum flow rate according to design conditions, range:
    50.9 – 51.3 m3/h
  • Water inlet temperature as required by the heat pump system:
    41.8 – 42.4 °C
  • Fluid: water

  • DT1:
    water inlet temperature – ambient temperature
  • DTliq:
    water inlet temperature – water outlet temperature
  • Capacity calculated on the basis of maximum flow rate, DTliq and specific heat.

Test certified performance

The test showed the following key data:

Calculated cooling capacity:

579,6 kW.

Sound power level:

92 dB(A) measured over the entire unit.

Rated power consumption:

14.760 W.

(The test was carried out on half the unit, using one coil and three fans, to test performance. The noise level was measured over the entire unit).

The results

The test confirmed that the operating parameters of the OSTRO dry cooler were within the tight 3% tolerance required by the customer. This result confirms STEFANI’s ability to provide reliable and high performance solutions, ideal for mission-critical applications such as data centres.
